A time bomb is a computer program that will cease to function after a predetermined date or time is reached. Time bombs are often set by application developers to extort money or other compensation from former employers. They are also set by software developing organizations so that software will no longer function after a license period has expired. The term "time bomb" should not be applied to a declared trial application program that stops functioning a specific number of days after it is installed. In such a cause, the term "trialware" applies.
